About Steve
Today the idea of having a Coach, or even being a Coach, is well understood, but back in January of 1987 there was no (general) coaching profession. The response from most people, upon hearing that Steve Straus was a Coach, was to ask, “What sport?” A reasonable question given that the role of a sports coach is to assist athletes to be their best, to set goals, to excel, whatever their game. That’s what personal Coaches do for people in the game of life.

S:1438 Distinction: Resilient vs. Fragile
(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.) Resilience is good. Bend with the wind but don’t break. (Quotes are capsules of information, reinforcement, or enlightenment.) “Everything I have discoveredI was longing for.” Jamie Beck Coaching Point: There is power in this quote. In two parts. First, she expresses an attitude of discovery. Embedded within is curiosity, a leaning into. Discovery is action. Almost always a positive, uplifting, energizing action. Taking in, taking …
S:1436 Great Question: Afford?
(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.) “How can I afford it?” Coaching Point: When confronted with a need or desire to spend above a certain limit we can have a scarcity thought: “I can’t afford it” is a common knee-jerk reaction. It’s based in the past. “I can’t” is an automatic …
