Steve's 3 Minute Coaching

About Steve
Today the idea of having a Coach, or even being a Coach, is well understood, but back in January of 1987 there was no (general) coaching profession. The response from most people, upon hearing that Steve Straus was a Coach, was to ask, “What sport?” A reasonable question given that the role of a sports coach is to assist athletes to be their best, to set goals, to excel, whatever their game. That’s what personal Coaches do for people in the game of life.

S:1391 Great Question: Misunderstood?
(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.) “How am I being misunderstood?” Coaching Point: This is a sneaky question because being misunderstood is almost always about the sender not the receiver. If you notice people don’t seem to be understanding what you’re saying, look inward. An old piece of wisdom says, “The …
S:1390 Distinction: Work-In-Progress vs. Work-In-Process
(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.) The phrase ‘He’s a work-in-process’ is used to describe someone who is still emerging into a new state. Not fully formed, their cake not yet baked. To others they can look disorganized, uncertain, confused, lost even. Sometimes …

(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.) This S3MC uses flying as a metaphor. It’s about a lot more than flying. When learning to become a pilot one of the significant steps – some might rightly call it THE significant step – is the occasion of …
S:1388 Distinction: Common Sense vs. Common Practice
(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.) A phrase which gets bandied about is, “It’s just common sense.” The implication, by the bandier, is that because it’s clear to them it should be clear to everyone and if someone else doesn’t see what they …
