Steve's 3 Minute Coaching

About Steve
Today the idea of having a Coach, or even being a Coach, is well understood, but back in January of 1987 there was no (general) coaching profession. The response from most people, upon hearing that Steve Straus was a Coach, was to ask, “What sport?” A reasonable question given that the role of a sports coach is to assist athletes to be their best, to set goals, to excel, whatever their game. That’s what personal Coaches do for people in the game of life.

(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.) This S3MC comes in three steps. First, bring to mind people you have experienced as having goodness. A friend, a leader, a child, someone who exudes an energy of niceness, warmth, quiet friendliness. Goodness has an absence of critical …
S:1384 Personal Need: For Protection
(An unmet Need causes us to feel empty, incomplete, or less than whole. Fulfilling a Need gives us freedom to be ourselves.) The Need For Protection is somewhat as described in Maslow’s Hierarchy but is subtly different and in many ways more pervasive. His refers to basic physiological needs such as for shelter and safety. …
S:1383 Great Question: Past and Fear?
(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.) “What from my past am I projecting to the future as a fear?” Coaching Point: It’s called Projection. It’s when we assume what we imagine for the future is what will happen. This is true whether we are conscious of our thoughts about the future …
S:1382 Great Question: Of?
(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.) “What am I Of?” Coaching Point: What does it mean to be Of? We know what it’s like to be separate-from, outside-of, opposed-to. Feeling like ‘they’ know something we don’t. This feeling outside-of is a stage all people go through, certainly during our teenage years. …
