(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

This is an easy one. Or a hard one. It depends on your beliefs.

Consider the idea that perfection is impossible to attain for more than fractions of moments. Unfortunately many people think that the purpose of their life is to try to reach a state of perfection. Thus they set themselves up to feel like failures just about every day.

Usually people have perfection as their goal because of some unresolved or recognized need, such as the need to be admired or the need to be needed. When you start to heal your needs you will find your desire for perfection will diminish.

On the other hand, everything – including you – is already perfect. It is what it is. And that’s not to say that you like it. You may even have shame about some of your attributes and feel really bad that they are yours. That’s fine. Just get that you are perfect.

Why are you perfect? Because you are the only copy of you there is. Or ever has been. Or ever will be. You are the perfect copy of you.

Coaching Point: When are you going to start acting like you’re perfect and give up trying for perfection?
