(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

So-called extreme sports are popular right now — extreme skiing, extreme boarding, probably even extreme chess. Extreme is doing something beyond the normal bounds. Not safe. Not even close to safe. Extreme.

Always living life safe has its rewards. One of the rewards is staying safe. Kind of circular logic, don’t you think?

What’s to be gained for you by being extreme? It can blow out the cobwebs. You’ll find that a routine has become a rut. You’ll have more ideas, quicker. It’s fun! Extreme will make you (temporarily) insecure and insecurity has miracles inside it. Excitement is energizing.

Balance tried and true with extreme. Both have their place.
