Most people, when asked, would say they know what quality is. Some may say they can’t really define it, but they “know it when they see it.”
In other words, most people think of quality as a finite thing, clearly identifiable, unambiguous.
It is not. Quality is relative.
Relative to what? You. You are the determiner of what quality means to you.
Those who would stand on a soapbox and loudly proclaim “this is quality” and “that is not” need to be careful because everything changes. A quality piece of software written ten years ago now looks crude. A quality piece of music written today stands a (very!) good chance of sounding awful in a couple of years.
