(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)
There is an epidemic of people comparing themselves to others. [Epidemic – “a wide-spread communicable thing which makes people sick.”] Comparing yourself to others is an easy way to make yourself sick.
When you compare your self to someone else you can only lose. If you think you’re less than them, you lose simply because you believe it! And if you think you’re better than them, you lose because nobody is better than anybody.
The difference you think you sense is an illusion, an artifice of the egoic mind.
If you ever feel, think, or hear yourself saying, “I’m less than…” / “I’m not enough” / “I’m not good enough” then use it as a signal that you have a belief system which is working against you.
When you begin to see everyone as being the same as you — while being unique — then you will take a completely different approach to your journey. It will get easier.
