(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

If you decide to not give your time and attention to something is it because you’ve looked at the situation and decided it’s not important to you?

Or is it because you just don’t care?

The first means you’ve taken enough time to make a reasonable decision based on the information at hand. You’re being in charge of your life.

The second is when you’re simply apathetic. This is not a place of strength for you.

Causing things to happen is much more useful than being a bystander and letting things happen.
