(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)
“Beware!” is the sign outside a dangerous area. Beware is an indicator that you may be at risk and it’s certainly useful to know where risk and danger are present. But spending too much time looking for risks diverts time from looking at what’s great about your present.
Awareness is one of life’s great leverage points. – The more aware you are, the more options you see. – The more options you see, the more choices you have. – The person with the most choices has a clear advantage.
How do you use your awareness? Focusing too much of your attention on possible danger limits your choices. People with limited choices have limited responses available.
Be aware of your surroundings. Beware of what’s potentially dangerous. Just don’t let your aware-ness be consumed by your beware-ness.
Coaching Point: Do you experience the freedom of awareness?
