“Assume is the enemy of Aware.”
Steve Straus
Coaching Point: Assumptions have their usefulness. They can be shortcuts, life simplifiers which can save you from chasing too many details. Plenty of successful people will tell you that their ability to make decisions without having all the facts (that is, they are inserting some assumptions into the equation) is a major contributor to their success.
It’s when assumptions are overused that trouble arises. Making too many assumptions, and relying on them, is when you begin to not look at what is so. Seeing what is so — being Aware — is far more useful than trusting assumptions.
Top-down, big-picture processing people [You know who you are!] are particularly susceptible to letting assuming interfere with being aware.
At least, wouldn’t you assume so?
