“Anyone who thinks they are indispensable is dispensable.”
Steve Straus
Coaching Point: Have you ever experienced someone who radiates the energy that they are the ultimate expression of the human race? How does that land with you?
Look, we’re all good at something, maybe even top notch in our niche, but notice what happens when you buy into your own greatness — it creates separation.
Separation is never a good thing. It’s lonely. Your self-believed indispensability evokes ‘you’re better-than,’ an inherently exclusionary position.
On the other hand, when you have the awareness that you are part of an integrated whole and include the brilliance of others, your life works better. Besides, thinking you’re superior, above, and separate-from sets you up for the inevitable fall.
So, go for it. Shoot for the top. Perfect your expertise. Revel in your wins. Enjoy setting new personal bests. Just don’t hallucinate that it makes you indispensable.
