(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

When directing others what do you want to accomplish? It’s the outcome, isn’t it?

Too frequently leaders, managers, parents, and others in charge slip into believing the way to an outcome is to focus people on avoiding punishments which arise from violating regulations.

But inspired leaders tap into the creativity which arises from a more educated follower.

Regulations spiral downward into increasing complexity. Education spirals upward into increasing knowledge.

Regulations have unintended consequences, begetting more regulations.

Education has unlimited potential, begetting more education.

Regulations have fear in them. Education has joy in it.
