(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)

All change is predicated on increased awareness. It’s obvious that no change can occur until you recognize the need for change. (Or have it pointed out to you!)

If there is a change you want to make, rather than plunging into the process of trying to change, first back up and look at the situation. In other words, rather than initially dealing with the content become familiar with the context.

As an example, I knew that my lack of discipline and will power kept me from achieving some of my desired outcomes. I was told I need to ‘fix’ those ‘flaws’ in my character, thus I needed to change.

With some masterful coaching from one of my Coaches I gained the insight that I was simply not wired for discipline and will power. That awareness, that context, led me to then seek how I could succeed in the absence of these two attributes.

Only with that greater awareness did the solution(s) appear. Rather than attempting to convert weaknesses into strengths (always a failing proposition) I created systems, structures, processes and resources which more than made up for them. Had I attempted to change the originally defined ‘problem’ I might still be struggling.

Before any change, first seek to become aware of what is so. From there you will be guided into what really needs to change and the most effective way to do so.

Coaching Point: Have you found yourself resisting a change? Have you become fully aware of the context of the situation?
