(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
Currently popular advice, in a world speeding up, is that you should slow down, live your life more slowly. All in all, not bad advice, but there is another side to it. It has to do with flow.
Life goes through cycles. Like waves on an ocean, life has peaks and valleys, ups and downs, seasons come and go. You don’t control that; it’s just the way life is. In other words, life has a flow to it and that flow changes over time.
When you are in the flow of life what you want happens more easily.
Sometimes you find the flow by slowing down, as the current advice says. But try riding a surfboard slowly down a huge wave and find out how that goes! There are times when you need to speed up to find the point of best flow.
I re-learned this recently when splitting firewood. A slow axe head speed doesn’t work. Nor does over-efforting and trying to smash the wood. There is an optimum speed to swing the axe which splits the log with minimal effort.
‘Live Life Flowly’ is not just a play on words. It’s a simple reminder to always look for the flow and choose the best speed for it. Life works best there.
Coaching Point: Since optimum velocity is a function of clarity how do you get clarity to find the point of best flow?
