(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

It’s pretty clear to most people that hanging around toxic environments is not useful. Toxics include – chemicals, fluids, and fumes; certain foods, drinks, and drugs; companies, relationships, and relatives; organizations, ‘messiahs,’ and movements.

In short, the definition of a toxic environment is anything which damages you, depletes you, and/or tries to keep you small. You have a right to walk away from and avoid any and all. But that’s just on the outside.

What’s inside you is even more important – your in-vironment. What you think about, feel, and say to yourself will either support and grow you, or it will pull you down more than a toxic environment.

We are each of us products of our programming, from others and, even more powerfully, from ourselves. I don’t deserve… I haven’t earned… I can’t afford… I’m angry… I need… I’m a victim… It’s not my fault… But you see, I have this condition… She/he won’t let me… And on and on we go.

All these stories reside inside. Yes, the ‘evidence’ may be on the outside, in the environment, but the stories are within.

Good news: when you change your stories, you’ll begin to notice changes in your environment.

Coaching Point: What do you say to yourself, about yourself? What is your in-vironment?
