(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
Visions of utopias lift the human spirit. To dream of what is possible is how progress is made. Always be willing to ‘build your castles in the air.’
Practical is also necessary because it provides traction. It, too, is how progress is made. Having foundations under your airy castles is a good idea.
Possible and practical are complementary, not opposites. Each supports the other. Without dreams . . . little would get accomplished. Without practical action . . . little would get accomplished.
The problem comes when people choose either/or, each camp believing the other is wrong.
“What a stuck-in-the-past Neanderthal you are,” says the possibility person.
“Your idea would work, if only water would run uphill, but it doesn’t,” says the practical one.
Among the great gifts of being human is that we have the innate capacity for both practical and possible.
Coaching Point: Is it easy for you to shift back and forth, to live practically and possibly, each when most appropriate?
