S:1112 Distinction: Participate vs. Perfect

(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

One of my talents – as identified in the StrengthsFinder assessment – is called Maximizer. It is my number one, top-of-the-list talent. That means I’m motivated, at the deepest levels of my wiring, to want to create and have perfect outcomes. Perfection motivates me. Good-to-great is my model.

But requiring perfection can keep me from participating. I can stop before I start, if I don’t have a reasonable belief that perfection is possible.

Never be willing to settle for what-is simply because you do not see how to create perfection from where you are right now. The mere act of participating will move you to a different place which will provide a fresh perspective.

Participation stirs things up. The universe rewards action. Motion is momentum. Bumps during the game teach.

Coaching Point: What one small action can you take today which will un-stick you?
