S:1116 Principle: Responsibility

(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)

An interesting sentence stood out in a recent magazine article – “Machines don’t care about operator ignorance.” Of course they don’t, they’re not sentient. (At least not yet!)

But what the sentence reminded me is that when we are using machines it is we who are responsible for the outcome, not the machine. It is we who must not be ignorant of the operation of the machine and its use.

Yet we occasionally hear someone say, “The car did this…” or “It wasn’t my fault, it just broke.” or “Why did it do that?” or “It just went off.”

The machines don’t care. Only you can care.

Coaching Point: Do you find it easy to assume responsibility for the machines in your life?
