S:1172 Distinction: Advantage vs. Aberration

(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

To have an advantage is to have an edge, a leg up, a better view. Looking for, and finding advantages is part of becoming, and staying, successful. Successful in business, of course, but advantages are useful in all areas of life. Visit with anyone you consider to have a successful life and they will tell you of the advantages they have seen. And acted upon.

An advantage is based on seeing a difference. Without a difference there is no advantage.

An aberration is also a difference, but aberrations are usually thought of in somewhat negative terms, as if there is something wrong about them. A struggling person gets stopped by aberrations.

The successful person looks for the advantage in every aberration.
