“I made my money by selling too soon.”
by, variously…
Bernard Baruch
Baron Nathan Rothschild
J.P. Morgan
Coaching Point: The main point of their message is this: Greed for the last dime will, in the end, lose. It’s hard to ‘call the top’ in any transaction. Sell too soon and your trajectory is up. Sell too late, it, and momentum, is down. Ending on an ‘up’ sets you up for your next win.
Another point: Grasping for all the profit is requiring someone else to lose. Win-Lose, played enough, always loses.
Yet another: Know, and play, your internal game. What outcome do you want? What is your ‘sell’ trigger point? Trying to ‘get to’ the other guy is playing externally, always a dicey place.
Finally: This message is about life not just money. It applies in relationships. In career choices. Retirement decisions. Contributions. Education options. By letting go a little early you can avoid trying to force an outcome.
What is a “Too Soon” you’re ready for?
