S:1265 Distinction: Choice vs. Consequence

(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

Take your pick. You can focus on the one or on the other.

You can move from choice to choice, dealing with whatever happens, then making a new choice from there.

Or move from worry to worry, about the consequence of your actions.

Pain-avoidance is a valid approach to life. It’s real and normal. Focusing on consequences can (possibly/sometimes/maybe) help you avoid some pain.

But living in a field of choice – knowing you are always at choice – is a place of creativity and discovery which provides an endless stream of delights. And, yes maybe the occasional pain. But you’re at choice how you handle that!

Coaching Point: Are you at choice?

[That’s a trick question – of course you are at choice, the field of choice is ever present. The real Coaching Point is: Are you
aware you are at choice?]
