(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
Some lessons are learned more deeply than others. The deepest usually have strong emotions. Rarely is a lesson learned by only hearing advice.
Case in point is about boots. Or more correctly about scorpions in boots. I had heard you should always strongly tap your boots’ heels on the floor then, while holding them upside down, shake them, in case a scorpion (or other unpleasant critter) had taken up housekeeping there.
One time – one time – I was in a hurry and failed to follow this advice. Let me tell you you can get your foot out of a boot pretty fast when a scorpion takes offense at your intrusion on his quiet, dark abode.
Lesson learned. These days you could be in the next room and you’ll know when I’m putting on my boots.
Coaching Point: Pain is only one way to learn lessons. What other ways do you use?
