(An unmet Need causes us to feel empty, incomplete, or less than whole. Fulfilling a Need gives us freedom to be ourselves.)

Clarity is a wonderful thing. It can provide confidence, energy, action, and results. With clarity all seems possible. A lack of clarity has two main issues.

First, an absence of clarity can simply mean ‘wait.’ To wait for clarity is an advanced life skill. Instead of plunging ahead, forcing outcomes, wasting energy, perhaps causing problems, the person who is in sync with life knows to always act from clarity. Timing is everything and optimal timing may require waiting. Intuition is a big factor in healthy waiting.

The other issue, the subject of this S3MC, impact the people who find themselves frozen by a lack of clarity. For them clarity is a need, something required to overcome a fear.

The efforting nature of this approach can cause an immobilizing amount of uncertainty and doubt. The well-known ‘analysis paralysis’ can set in – study, plan, gather more data, study some more – all because they are afraid to move ahead, to act.

When you discover you have a need for clarity pause and ask what it is you fear. What negative consequences loom? Is it a lacking in you, that you are not enough? When a need for clarity is holding you back you are not at choice, not free.

On the other hand, when you are waiting for clarity you are choosing to be guided to optimal timing and will step forward with confidence when the time seems right.

Coaching Point: Living with a need for clarity is not a bad thing, just not useful for a life well-lived. What can you do to resolve the underlying needy issue and become someone who healthily waits for clarity?
