(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)
The genesis of this Distinction was a sentence uttered years ago about dating. “No one just goes on a date, they audition.”
Meaning they were playing a part they think the other person wants to see. Or at least hope they want to see.
This role-playing is of course impossible to sustain. Sooner or later the real person shows their true nature. Sometimes (frequently?) it is after the wedding. Oh boy!
Coaching Point: This Distinction transcends mere dating. It applies to life.
What keeps you (if anything) from showing up authentically? All the time? In all situations?
Isn’t authentic a whole lot easier than writing and playing all those scripts?
