(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

Driving in the early morning dark there was a flash of light reflected off low clouds. When it repeated at consistent intervals it revealed as the rotating light from the beacon at a distant airport.

[Most Distinctions are to illuminate a preference in one thing versus another. Not so here. This is to show not a preference, a significant difference.]

Beacons and flashlights.

Sometimes we use a flashlight to find things. Sometimes we use it to find our way. In both applications the light is in our hands to serve our purpose.

Beacons are similar, but different. The beacon at the airport is so pilots may find their way to the airport in the dark. The beacon stands in place as a reference point.

Beacons and flashlights, one is in our hand, the other is distant. Both are for finding our way.

Coaching Point: What beacons are important to you? Where are you a beacon for others?
