S:1351 Distinction: Stop-Doings vs. To-Dos

(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

When overwhelmed by more and more things to do most people throw up their hands and quit in frustration.

What if you did part of that intentionally? What if you had your to-do list, sure, but also had a stop-doing list? That’s the list of things which are occupying some of your time now, maybe much of your time, that you could simply quit doing.

Many of our routine activities crept up on us over time and we have become unconscious to them. We would benefit from some clearheaded review. If it helps, bounce your frustrations off a friend or colleague and let them help you see where you’re blind to your own no-longer-necessary To-Dos, your Stop-Doings.

Coaching Point: What one thing are you inspired to stop doing right now?
