“. . . .
We’re workin’ our jobs

Collect our pay
Believe we’re gliding down the highway
When in fact we’re slip slidin’ away

Slip slidin’ away
Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away”

Paul Simon – writer and singer

Coaching Point: Some, maybe most believe this to be a sad song, of loss, of dreams unrealized. Life’s inevitable entropy.

Maybe. It’s also a reminder – of more, of possible. A wake up.

Why do we set alarms? It’s to delegate remembering so we can put our attention on higher priorities. When the alarm sounds a gap in our attention opens, freeing us to then choose.

To hear the words of this song is to hear not an alarm, it’s a cautionary tale. A reminder to pay attention. To where we are. To our trajectory. Awaken to awareness, then choose.

Not paying attention has its costs.

What are you doin’ today to avoid slip slidin’ away?
