(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
Think about shining a light on an object. Seeing the lit object is different from the light which illuminates it. There must be light to see it, but the light is separate from it.
There are reasons for this observation. We tend to not even think about the nature of the light. What we want to see is the effect of the light. We gloss over being aware of the completely separate nature of it. That which is lit is not light.
In like manner when we become aware of something – anything, an object, a thought, the time – we tend to focus on the something and completely gloss over the presence of awareness. Awareness is to that of which we become aware as light is to the object being lit.
Why is this important? It’s because wherever we place our awareness determines what we experience. Without awareness it is as if something which exists, does not. Much like being in a room in the absence of all light might have it appear there is nothing there. (Stepping barefoot on a Lego piece in the middle of the night evaporates that thought!)
A fact: People who are leading highly successful lives tend to have developed much higher levels of awareness than people who aren’t and don’t. To use yet another analogy, it is as if they are the only sighted people in a room of the blind.
Meditation, prayer, Tai Chi, yoga, and journaling are some of the tools others have used to expand and refine their awareness.
