“When all else fails, hug the dog.”
A sign in the vet’s office this morning
Coaching Point: You may or may not be a ‘dog person’ or even a ‘pet’ person. Doesn’t matter. Perhaps you have some other way of connecting with that which is beyond yourself.
It is easy for us to get caught up in our day-to-day busy-ness, buying into the belief that we are somehow separate from others. In the extreme, separate from even Life itself.
See through that separateness illusion. Or as an old guy said to me one time, “Boy, you’re not just a warm sack of chemicals with a nametag.” He was pointing out that I was part of something much bigger than myself.
In this morning’s experience I was reminded that the dog (and her wagging tail!) is a constant resource to help me connect with the greater picture. Particularly when things close in and trigger an “I’m alone” response.
No, I’m not. Hug the dog.
What do you do to pierce the illusion of separateness?
