(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

When you accept something you have come to terms with it. You cease to resist and are no longer fighting against it. There is acceptance of “what is.”

When you are tolerating you still have energy in the situation. You are only putting up with things being the way they are.

Acceptance sets you free to create different outcomes. Toleration keeps you tied to the current condition.

If you want to, tolerate until you get tired of the circumstances or until you finally overcome them. There is nothing wrong with tolerating.

But choosing to accept, and move on, can be a better use of your energy.
