(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
I read a new book the other day about the early days of the space program when I had an ah-ha. [Digital Apollo by David Miridell]
He describes how the astronauts — for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs — visited the plants and offices of the many vendors who were producing the systems they would fly.
Although there were many technical and political reasons for the visits, a prime reason was to let them know that real flesh-and-blood humans (the astronauts) were depending on them (the managers, scientists, engineers, and workers) to do their best. The astronauts lives depended on it.
They said these visits “put a face on it” so that people could see the personal nature of their work.
Today you have the opportunity to communicate with the people in your life using any number of devices, modes, and technologies. Whether you are connecting with customers, vendors, family, or friends are you making the effort to “put a face on it?” It’s easy to do, you just have to want to.
By the way, this S3MC may sound strange coming from someone who mostly spends his day talking on the phone! I’m paying attention to it also.
Coaching Point: What is one thing you can do to put a face on your communications?
