“What I thought was my destiny
was just my past running out ahead of me.”
Peyton Wimmer
Coaching Point: It is so easy to have wishes for the future be based on the past. Many goals are attempts to plug holes.
We can believe (read: hope) that our needs will finally get met if something can happen in the future. Or the pain we went through in the past will be justified by a wonderful future outcome. Or a fear or disquiet we feel will be abated by reaching a goal. All of these desired outcomes are based on projections of stuff from the past.
The past can be addressed, resolved and let go of. That’s useful.
Then, wouldn’t it be better to let your destiny emerge from your future and pull you toward it?
