“All self-examination should be done with compassion, keeping in mind that past errors arose within a different context.”

David Hawkins

Coaching Point: “…a different context.” So important. Change, experience, and growth are life. Thus, the context changes every day. You are not who you were. Judging your past behavior within the context of who you are now is not useful!

The broader world has examples of this. Some people look at the behavior of others in the distant past and, by measuring it against present awareness, condemn it. One can be clear about the past (and its different context) without being judgmental. It’s a choice.

Can you practice self-compassion about your past behavior?
