(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
This is an easy one. Because we’ve all experienced it.
Think of the last time you spoke to the text transcriber on your phone. You expressed your words, but it misunderstood them. It wrote something different from what you said.
Fortunately, you caught it. (Well, not every time!)
If you didn’t catch the error, did it cause confusion for the message recipient? Upset? A need for you to backtrack and explain?
You might have said, “Hey, it was the phone.” (You blamed the miscommunication on the device or the software.)
This is a simple example of technology being the cause of a miscommunication. Have you ever had a miscommunication when you were talking directly to someone?
A useful guideline applies in every communication: Ensure that what you say is what others hear.
Coaching Point: How do you do that?
