(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value, or attitude.)
Unpleasant things happen from time to time. Sudden or after festering. Not desired. But still, you have to deal with them. You have two ways to look at each situation.
One – a popular one – is to feel you are being tested. That you will be ‘a better person’ when you pass the test. In this model of life, tests come from outside sources. You can think of yourself as ‘over here’ and the tester as ‘over there.’ Pass the test to ‘win a prize.’ It’s an interesting idea!
Another way to handle life’s tough moments is to view them as opportunities to learn and grow. The value in this approach is that you own the situation. Instead of facing a tough test, you can ask yourself important learning questions.
Such as – What did I miss that let this happen? What resources did I not engage? How can I come out of this in an even better place? And other such growth-oriented questions.
Waiting for tests to come to your door can leave you feeling like a victim of forces greater than yourself.
Learning and growing are stronger ways to approach life. They come from the inside, your place of personal power and creativity.
