(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.)
“What outcome do I want to achieve?”
Coaching Point: That feeling like you got whacked in the head by something that didn’t leave a mark? That was the effect this Great Question had on me.
It’s a simple question. Not profound in and of itself. Looking backward from an outcome is, of course, useful. Learn from the effects of your actions.
But it derives its real power from the timing of its application—when you stop and ask the question before you act!
To have clarity about your intention. Thinking about timing. To see what resources you need. To consider second-order outcomes and unintended consequences. That’s powerful!
Yes, the question is simple. Asking it before you act is what makes all the difference.
Is achieving better outcomes truly that simple?
