(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
You know the usual goal-setting rules. These include 1-year, 5-year, 10-year, and lifetime goals.
Look back from now at where you were at each of those intervals. Have things turned out the way you planned? Most folks would say, “Not even close!”. Especially over the longer planning intervals. Why is that? It’s due to countless factors that were beyond your control. Even beyond your imagining. And new resources have shown up. Your interests have changed. You’ve grown.
Explore a new way to achieve great results: Live short futures.
Put your energy and planning into an interval that is more within your believable reach. There is an immediacy to short futures. They are ‘graspable.’ (For many reasons, three years is an optimal window.)
With a short future lived, you will have a different view from that vantage point than you do today. Different resources and relationships. You will care less about some things than you do now. More about others. And you will have grown.
Keep it rolling. Plan a short future. Live it to the fullest. Plan the next one.
