“He strikes me as the kind of guy who eats all the cashews out of the mixed nuts.”

Jared Dillian

Coaching Point: Awareness is where you find it. If you are open to seeing it, it is everywhere! Even in a throwaway line in the middle of a bigger message.

My first reaction to the quote was, “Yeah, he’s selfish and eats all the good stuff. Leaving the cheap peanuts for the rest of us.”

Interesting that I went to ‘selfish’ first. Realized that said something about me; judgmental, I’m better than, etc. A real absence of love, what?

Then I thought about the flip side. What if he had mixed nuts but wanted only cashews? If it’s only him eating the nuts, he gets to have what he wants.

Finally, you and I both know people who would eat all the nuts because they “should.” (Even those big Brazil things!) “Waste not, want not.” And such.

So it comes down to this: When you factor in all the attributes (that is, you are fully conscious and aware)
. . .

What do you want, you crazy nut?
