(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)
All things come to an end. Recognizing when to end things is a life skill.
Full disclosure: I have started three successful businesses. The second was also highly unsuccessful. In its short run, I made five fundamental errors, any one of which would have been fatal. I made all five.
The last error was failing to see the business was dead. I kept trying to revive it – for a year. It was dead that whole time, but I could not face the emotional truth of having “failed.” I dug quite a financial hole because I would not face the truth.
So yes, I have personal experience of the value of knowing when to end something. When?
When markets change, when technology advances beyond your reach, when once strong connections weaken, when age plays a role, or when your interest diminishes, or for countless other reasons.
Highly successful people focus on seeing and acting upon the truth. When needed, they cut their losses and move on.
