(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.)
“How engaged am I with my community(s)?”
Coaching Point: This Great Question has two facets. The first is about your level of engagement. The other addresses what communities you choose to be a part of.
Let’s take that one first. It is more important.
I’m an introvert. Engaging with others has always been one of my challenges. I’ve learned to do it. I’ve come to like it. I’ve enjoyed the amazing benefits of connecting with others. Learning from, sharing, and growing each other. The term I most resonate with is inter-developmental. Which is beyond inter-dependent. It’s about actively contributing to each other’s growth and development. (See S:0001)
But as an introvert, I’ve always had that extra need to push outside of myself. Extroverts don’t know what I’m talking about!
After deciding the communities you want to engage with, take action. Maybe you will get lucky and be approached by others and encouraged to join in.
If not, start with baby steps. Attend a gathering. Ask others what they enjoy most about the community. Then, see a task that interests you, perhaps one in which you have some experience, and step in.
Allow yourself to be drawn in rather than sucked in and consumed! Healthy boundaries are important. Choose your level of engagement.
Have you noticed the more you engage, the more you receive?
